"Children should leave each day with a smile on their face and a story in their heart."

             Author Unknown

Hi! My name is Nora Romero and I am a first grade teacher!

I am a life long resident of Odem, and this is  will be my 23rd year as a first grade teacher at Odem Elementary. My passion is teaching children how to read and to help them develop a love for school and learning.  I am looking forward to teaching your child and working closely with you to ensure a successful and memorable year.  I will do my best to create a positive, safe, and challenging educational environment, and I will treat your child with love and respect.

First grade is an amazing year for your child and you will see so much growth. This year your child will learn (if he or she doesn't already know how) to read and write stories.  They will be expected to learn how to read and spell 135 sight words by the end of the year ( the list is in their Homework Folder), and they will be exposed to a variety of Reading genres including: Fantasy, Realistic Fiction, Poetry, Informative Text, and Biographies.  We will also spend all year focusing on vocabulary and comprehension skills.

I cannot stress enough how important it is to read to and with your child each and every day.  After reading to your child, ask questions about the story to check their understanding.

In addition to learning how to read and write, your child will also learn basic addition and subtraction skills, and they will be exposed to graphs, shapes, money, time, and a variety of other math skills.  First graders willl also cover several science and social studies topics throughout the year.

If you ever have any questions or concerns you may contact me at romeron@oeisd.org or call the Elementary office and leave a message.

I believe that by working  together, we will help your child to have an

"Owlstanding" year!!!!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Romero
